Politics and Sports

The 1968 Olympic Protest was when Tommie Smith and John Carlos giving the black power salute after they won medals for there countries. The athletes were doing this for human rights and ended racism in the olympics. They made a point to the world and wanted racism to end.

Black September was when terrorist group captured athletes that were competing in the olympics. They were only from one team which where the Israelis. All the hostages were killed when trying to be rescued. The olympics were canceled after this events.

Muhammad Ali would not fight in Vietnam War because he was against the War. He believed people should not fight the War if your religious belief are against it. He was the only famous athlete to deny going to war.

Lynne Cox was the first person to swim across the bering straight. The water as 43 degrees and she had to fight the freezing water and the rough sea. She spent 2 hours and 6 minutes in the water that can kill an average human in 30 minutes. She was an inspiration to everyone because she never gave up and didn't let fear control her
